Mother's Day Without Mama

Updated: Apr 22

I missed you today Mama, but that is nothing new.

Mother's Day will never be the same, without you.

The tears have flown freely, you live on in my heart, completely.

I begrudgingly moved your word search from the dining room to the dresser with your things; your glasses, your slippers, all of this causes a pang.

Me and my babies,, we sit at your spot on the couch,

with your picture above us, I feel your presence all about.

I will teach them how great you were around, and let them know that now, you fly freely up in the clouds.

You're now without pain or sickness, o death, where is your sting? On my right finger, sits your wedding ring.

Along with the memories of you in my heart, I carry it with me, reminding me that we are never truly apart.

The grief will try and try to wreck me, but I hold to the promise that you are now free.

I hug and kiss my babies, being thankful throughout the day.

The Lord blessed me with them, I sit with them and play.

I mother my babies as you taught me, giving them the world regardless of tribulation.

Your love will live on, through another generation.

I push the sadness aside, your love is my guide.

You wouldn't want my crying, I can hear you sighing.

"Brittany, keep going on, don't keep me from flying."

After all, I am a mother now too, hoping to be only half as good as you.
